In memory of Errol Lisk

ERROL LISK

It with great sadness that we advise of the death of Errol Lisk on Saturday 12 August, just two days before his 84th birthday.

Born in Colombo and a graduate of top-flight school and college cricket, Errol emigrated to the UK in the early 1960s and, in keeping with his considerable financial acumen, worked at a high level for Barclays Bank.

He played for North Middlesex CC for over 20 years until 1986, including several seasons as 1st XI captain.  He was a top-flight wicket-keeper and an aggressive and entertaining middle-order batsman who always seemed to excel when up against Exiles.

Errol joined Northampton Exiles for the 1987 season and had to display uncharacteristic patience, like the superb clubman he has always been, before eventually displacing a high-class contemporary in Mike Williams as the 1st XI ‘keeper. Errol was an extraordinarily talented wicket-keeper who stood up to virtually every Exiles bowler. Remarkably, he took 20 stumpings for the 1st XI in 1990. Errol served as 1st XI captain in 1993 and 1994, always playing positively and seeking to encourage the team.  He continued to play until 2004 and was a wonderful member of four Exiles touring parties to Barbados where he developed a taste for the local rum!

Away from the cricket field, Errol served Northampton Exiles as Chairman from 2015 to 2017, having been on the club’s Management Committee for a number of years, including stints as Treasurer from 1994 to 1997 and Club Captain from 2004 to 2006.  He was a generous host and a great friend who lived life to the full. His immense generosity was exemplified by the number of Exiles players that he invited to spend a week at his timeshare in La Manga, Spain.

Our deepest sympathy at this very sad time goes to Myrtle, Coral and David and their families.

We will advise of the funeral arrangements once known.
